Guide

Choosing or changing your WorkCover psychologist

The clinical fit matters. So do the referral, approval and handover arrangements when care changes.

Choosing a starting point

Look for the right service, location or online option, age range, language and experience relevant to your concerns. You can read about therapeutic approaches, but you do not need to select your treatment method before speaking with a clinician.

Our finder narrows profiles using the preferences you choose. It is not an assessment, a ranking of clinical skill or a live appointment search. We check suitability and funding separately.

When you are unsure about the fit

You may feel the approach, communication or practical arrangements are not working for you. You can raise this with your psychologist or our team. Sometimes expectations can be clarified; in other cases, another clinician may be more suitable.

You do not need to continue with a particular psychologist simply to avoid an awkward conversation. At the same time, it helps to plan a handover rather than stopping care without a next step.

Before changing funded appointments

  • Ask the new provider whether they can offer the service and check their current scheme approval.
  • Tell the claims manager you are considering a change and ask about referral and treatment approval requirements.
  • Confirm which sessions, dates and provider are funded, and whether a new request is needed.

Approval is not automatically transferable. Changing psychologist does not necessarily create a new allowance of initial sessions. Do not cancel established care until you understand the arrangements.

A useful handover

With appropriate consent, relevant clinical information may help the new psychologist understand what has already been tried. You can discuss what is shared and the purpose of the transfer.

You may still need an assessment with the new clinician. A handover does not remove their responsibility to understand your needs and plan care with you.

Moving to Logic Lounge

Call us with your preferred clinician or use Find Your Psych to narrow the options. Tell us that you are transferring care, the insurer details and what approval you already have.

We check the service and practical arrangements before confirming a booking. We do not require you to send your whole clinical record in a general website message.
