Answers about referrals, funding, choosing a clinician and what happens in treatment.

14 questions

Do I need a GP referral?

A treating doctor's referral helps us understand the clinical request and arrange WorkCover care. Have your referral, claim details and any treatment approval ready. A Medicare Mental Health Treatment Plan is a different funding pathway.

Does WorkCover pay for psychology?

Psychology may be funded where the treatment and claim meet the applicable requirements. A claim number alone does not confirm this. We check the service and payment arrangements before your appointment and discuss any personal fee in advance.

How many sessions can I have?

There is no single allowance that fits every claim. Check the insurer's written approval and talk with your psychologist about clinical need. Further treatment may require an AHTR. Do not rely on an old promise of a fixed number of free initial sessions.

Can I choose or change my psychologist?

You can discuss a preferred clinician or a change of provider. Check current approval, the referral and whether the insurer needs to approve the new arrangements. Funding does not automatically transfer and changing provider does not automatically restart an initial-session allowance.

Can I see a psychologist online?

Telehealth may be available when it is clinically appropriate and the funding arrangements are confirmed. Use the online filter to see profiles that list telehealth. You need a private place and a suitable device and connection.

Does Find Your Psych show available appointments?

No. It filters profile information by the preferences you choose. It does not read live diaries, decide clinical suitability or confirm SIRA approval. Our team checks these matters before booking.

Will my employer know everything we discuss?

An employer does not automatically receive everything said in therapy. Relevant information may be shared for treatment, funding, work capacity or legal and safety reasons. Discuss consent, recipients and the limits of confidentiality with your psychologist.

Is work stress always a WorkCover injury?

No. Stress can affect health, but a stressful experience does not automatically meet the requirements of a compensable psychological injury. Clinical assessment, claim eligibility and treatment approval are different questions.

Can I book while approval is pending?

Contact our team to check the situation. Limited prior-approval exceptions may apply in some circumstances. Any private option and personal cost must be discussed first; later insurer reimbursement is not guaranteed.

Can I use Medicare for the same session?

The same service must not be billed to both WorkCover and Medicare. Talk with us before changing the funding pathway. Medicare referrals and eligibility have their own requirements.

Do you provide WorkCover reports and assessments?

We consider requests individually. Routine treatment, progress reports, case conferences, neuropsychological assessment and independent assessments are different services. Please specify the purpose, consent and approval when enquiring.

What should I do if I cannot attend?

Contact us as early as possible. Ask about the appointment's cancellation terms when booking. Do not assume an insurer pays missed-appointment or cancellation charges.

Are all clinics step-free?

No. Hornsby and Drummoyne have stairs-only access. North Sydney and Parramatta have lift access; Engadine and Pymble are ground-floor clinics. Confirm specific access needs with the team, including Macquarie Park.

Can you decide whether my claim will be accepted?

No. We provide clinical care and relevant treatment information. The insurer and the applicable review or legal processes handle claim decisions. A directory result or psychology diagnosis is not a promise of claim acceptance.

Let's work out the next step.

Tell us where you would like to attend and whether you have a referral or treatment approval. We will explain what is needed.
