Ask about information sharing early
Psychology is a private health service, but confidentiality has limits. WorkCover care may involve relevant information going to a GP, insurer or another treating professional. There may also be legal or safety reasons for disclosure.
Your psychologist should explain consent and the purpose of information sharing. You can ask for clarification before signing a form or agreeing to contact with someone else.
Does my employer receive everything?
An employer does not automatically receive a full account of every therapy conversation simply because the treatment is connected to work. The purpose and legal basis for any disclosure matter.
Information about capacity or suitable duties may have a different purpose from a clinical treatment report. Ask who will receive each document and what it contains.
Relevant information, not unnecessary detail
A treatment request usually needs information about the injury, goals and proposed care. That does not mean every detail of your personal history is relevant.
Discuss particularly sensitive information with your psychologist. Withdrawal or limits to consent can affect treatment coordination or funding, and legal obligations can still apply. Ask about the consequences rather than assuming a signature can resolve every situation.
Using this website
Our Find Your Psych tool filters profile information in your browser. It does not ask for your name, employer, claim number or account of an incident. It does not send or save your selections as part of the site's own code.
If you open a booking service or email link, a separate service is involved. Do not include sensitive documents in a general email until our team has explained the appropriate transfer process.
