Reports, case conferences and assessments

Tell us what is being requested and why. A treatment appointment does not automatically include every type of report or assessment.

A treatment update has a particular purpose

A treating psychologist may provide relevant information about assessment, treatment goals and progress. What is appropriate depends on the request, consent, clinical role and scheme requirements.

A report should not be assumed to be a legal opinion, a guarantee of future capacity or an independent assessment. Please make the purpose clear before work is commissioned.

Case conferences

A case conference is a planned discussion between people involved in care or recovery. It may include the worker, treating professionals, claims manager or rehabilitation provider.

Agree on the purpose, participants, relevant consent and funding before arranging it. Ask how the discussion will be recorded and what information will be shared.

Separate assessment requests

Neuropsychological testing, independent medical examinations, permanent impairment assessments and medicolegal reports are not interchangeable with routine therapy. They may require particular expertise, appointments and approval.

We check these requests individually. A practitioner's listing on this treatment site does not mean they provide every assessment service.

Information for referrers

  • State the questions to be answered and the intended recipient.
  • Provide the claim and approval details, scope, due date and relevant consent.
  • Identify whether the request is treating-clinician input or an independent opinion.

We will discuss whether the request is appropriate and confirm arrangements before accepting the work. Please do not assume a turnaround time without checking.

Costs and consent

The published fee schedule has specific items and conditions for reports and case conferences. Some work requires prior insurer approval. The fee rules are separate from whether a disclosure is clinically appropriate or legally permitted.

We discuss the scope and costs before substantial additional work is undertaken.
