WorkCover, SIRA and your insurer: who does what?

A guide to the names you may see when arranging workers compensation psychology in NSW.

WorkCover is a familiar name

People often say WorkCover, workers comp or workers compensation when asking about treatment for a work-related injury. This site is about psychology under the NSW workers compensation system, not an insurance policy you buy from Logic Lounge.

SIRA regulates the NSW scheme. It does not provide your therapy or automatically approve every treatment request.

What does SIRA-approved psychologist mean?

SIRA approval is a scheme requirement for specified treating allied health services, including psychology, subject to applicable exceptions. It is different from registration as a psychologist.

Ask us to check the individual practitioner's current WorkCover approval and suitability for your referral. The Find Your Psych results do not certify either your funding or a clinician's current approval.

What does the insurer or claims manager do?

The insurer or claims manager handles claim and treatment decisions. Your correspondence should identify who manages your claim, the claim number and contact details.

icare is involved in NSW insurance arrangements, but not every claim has the same insurer or claims manager. Use the details on your own claim correspondence rather than sending a referral to a general insurance inbox.

What does Logic Lounge do?

We provide psychological care and help organise the appointment process. We check referral and payment information, discuss clinician options and explain what is needed before a funded appointment.

We are not SIRA, icare, a law firm or a workplace rehabilitation insurer. We cannot promise claim acceptance or change an insurer's decision.

The simplest first step

Call us with your claim number, treating doctor's referral and any psychology approval. If something is missing, we can tell you what needs to be checked. Please do not put sensitive injury details into a general website enquiry.
